My Philosophy

-an autobiographical essay

I have no single philosophy in life but rather two philosophies- single but extremely effective. Love and truth are what I believe in. Each of which has different meaning. They are equally important. Without both, neither peace or happiness can be attained, things fall apart, wars break out, and personal relationships fail. But, the combination of love and truth is a powerful force and can overcome life’s most unpleasant trials.

Truth is the same as Science. Science is the search for new knowledge, discoveries, and for clearer and accurate view of things. In other words, it is a quest for truth which one seeks. Telling the truth sustains effective communication and trust preventing misunderstanding. Telling lies creates an environment of distrust and fear. Like Science, it is best to tell the whole truth to all persons, in discovering new things. Without proof and truth, the statements are unreliable and will be ignored. But with proof and evidences, people will honor you for that. Thus, truth and science are similar, it’s best to either tell the whole truth and the complete truth.

Love never fails to care. It is an overpowering urge to protect, defend, and nurture someone. It is the cohesive force which tends to bind people together just as hate is the divisive force which drives people apart. But without love, life is nothing without sadness, emptiness, and loneliness. Love is one thing that makes life worth living. To be happy in life, find what you love and follow it. Money, opinions, judgments does not matter but love matters. Hence, love cares.

Truth is necessary to support love. For without the truth, one does not have the power to protect what one loves. Truth is the power. It allows you to see rightly around you instead of darkness and it enables one to protect, defend, and nurture what one loves. Conversely, love is necessarily to support truth. For without love, the motivation for truth will vanish. With love, it allows you to eagerly know the truth. So, the interdependence of love and truth are necessary to support the other.

Without both love and truth, one cannot be happy in life. These two things support each other and nurture each other. Without one, the other cannot survive. That is why I have chosen to build my philosophy around these two concepts rather than around morality, politics, laws, rules, or prejudices. If you base your life on hatred and lies, they shall destroy you. But if you base your life on love and truth, they shall set you free. Such things come and go like dust on the winds of time, but love and truth remain, always.

What awaits me in College.

High school is the beginning of some of the best and worst times of our life. High school then is an experience that people love while others hate and try to forget the whole experience. This is the part of life where one could enjoy life to the fullest before having responsibilities to face. This is the phase of life where one would experience failures and frustrations before having success. This is the point in life wherein one should work hard and manage to accomplish requirements in order to achieve the next phase in life- College. High school might be the most strenuous and irksome period in life but fun and friendship makes it worth. Hence, high school is gives us both best and worst in life.

High school might have the best and the worst part of life but college is more than that. College gives the much freedom you want but because of this, it is upon your choice to use it wisely. College provides the proper and appropriate education to students but the students possess the right to go to school as he pleases. College aims to produce proficient and skilled students in the near future but attaining a higher education or graduating is completely up them. College is really a place wherein you will be left alone to strive hard; an exact opposite of high school. Thus, college improves our intelligence, initiates our independence and hastens our happiness for the sake of our future.

College is a place to learn independence. Independence can be achieved if one tries to stand on his own without depending upon another's help. College grants us the ability to decide on our own unlike in high school where we depend on our parents’ decision. College allows us to discover things on our own and do things on our own unlike in high school where the administrators, faculty and staff do their best for you to learn. College gives us the chance to feel the pressure and pains in life so that we may attempt to strive hard in earning what we deserve. After high school, I want to experience how to stand on my own feet and taste the triumph I had work hard for. Hence, college marks my independence.

College is also an institution to enhance intelligence. Intelligence is the ability to learn about, learns from, understand, and interact with one’s environment. In college, we specialize in a certain subject and should not to confine ourselves to the knowledge on the textbooks but on your own. In college, we boost our knowledge not by books but through researches and brainstorming discussions. In college, we learn how to employ our knowledge to apply to practicalities and after that build a new you. After high school, I want to develop my intelligence through being independent to be able to taste the victory I had work hard for. Thus, college perfects my intelligence.

College, as well, is a
place to boost our happiness. Happiness is not the pleasure we will experience but the success we will undergo after all of our struggles and hard work. After all the pressures in college, we will definitely find the right thing on what we have achieved and attained through all of our hard works. After all the projects and requirements in college, we will certainly be delighted that it has given us much knowledge, discipline and patience for us to utilize it in the near future. After years in college, we will absolutely feel the best because we have survived the test in assisting and preparing us for the real world. After all of these, we will positively be happy and successful in life. Hence, college marks my happiness.

College is the beginning of our journey to initiate our independence, improve our intelligence and hasten our happiness. Like high school, college is just an instrument to help us towards the actual world. College might be an annoying and tiresome point in our life but it unmasks the real you and helps out in finding what you are someday in the society. College may leave us finding the solutions to problems by ourselves but through this, we learn to walk and stand on our own. College will definitely unveil our destiny since we grow into a mature and happy person. In college, we will learn so much about life and most importantly ourselves. Thus, college further expand our self through independence, intelligence, and happiness.

Living Like We're Dying

Humans are born selfish, as what Karl Sagan said. We are filled with much greed that we forget to think of others and to what we act. We possess life to selfishly take what we wanted. We take everything but forgot to preserve it. We act without thinking that causes us misery. And now, we are faced with different issues and problems that cause our Mother Earth to lose its capacity to sustain what we want leading it for man to suffer an inconvenient truth.

Generations from generations, men has consistently depends on Mother Earth. For millions of years, we have used nature for our benefits and for our needs. We have given different resources for us to continue to live. We have found the perfect place for humans to get the necessities needed in survival. All of these gave us satisfaction through Nature’s Gift. Despite these, Mother Earth now has slowly becoming old. She can no longer give us what we want instantly. She is losing most of her prized possessions and treasures resulting this for man to greedily get more without giving. Thus, it resulted into a horrifying truth.

Possibly the largest global problem this planet has ever faced is upon us, and the part that’s even more scary, it may be the one we are most unprepared for. For a couple of decades now the earth has been going through changes and many have neglected to acknowledge these changes, but it’s clear, the time is now. Al Gore’s documentary film titled “An Inconvenient Truth” does a very good job giving everyone who watches it a better understanding on the issue of global warming. This is so important because not enough people understand what a big deal it is, and how it will impact our children in the years to come.

The documentary film “An Inconvenient Truth” is an eye opener and a wa
keup call for all humans. We are not all aware of the current situation happening in the world. Many people still don’t understand the significance of global warming. It is the result of the different human activities and the continuing emission of excessive carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere. Most of us still continue to destroy the Earth’s atmosphere. We can no longer deny the current state of the world and the environmental devastation we have caused. We, the concerned people must intervene to put an end to the misery we are on. Now is the time to wake up from our deep slumber.

But, what exactly are the dangers in global warming? Some may think that it’s just another trend occurring in our world. Some people won’t mind them at all. And mostly people will not believe until they suffer. But what exactly are the consequences of global warming? Is it really that horrible? One result of global warming is that the Earth ice sheets have already becoming unstable. With these result, it may cause a great hazard among millions of people. And of course there are more, with global warming we can see killer droughts settling in; extreme weathers and super storms; and mostly the coming in of new flu’s and viruses. The only way we can do is to be the cure of this problem.

Humans tend to forget that problems are caused by our actions. But the solutions to our problem are in our hands. As we have seen we’re already seeing changes. Global Warming has caused, will cause us massive damage. We have started this and there is no doubt that we can solve this. Just like what Albert Einstein said, “We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” Then, we can solve these issues by changing our routines and letting our mind and heart take action. This may be simple ways but it can add up unto a big difference.

Clash of Equality

Human beings are truly gifted. Having been created in God’s image, we are endowed with intellect, freedom, and the privilege of being with God in the next life. We, as human person whom life is given, is the steward who must respect and care for his life and the life of others. Furthermore, we are bestowed with dignity which no other creation of God can posses. Despite all these graces given, however, human persons tend to forget one commandment. It emphasizes the respect for human life and the love for others. Being created in His own image, we are all equal, whether male or female. And as a creation of God we are just His humble servants. But, nowadays equality has lost its quality and mostly, women and children are victims of these issues.

Is there now equality of men and women? It is disturbing to see that in society today, I see women as victims of inequality. Most women have declared that they should have equal rights with the men and I agree to this. However, many men today are abusing the women for their own benefits. They consider women as mere objects for pleasure. They have been exploiting and dehumanizing them for profit. They have been treated as animals and punishing them with no mercy. What happened to equality given by God? They may be weaker than men but we are created equally. We are put on earth to do different things. We are built differently and we think differently. We are here for a purpose. However, we must recognize that misusing the equality for fun, for profit, and for revenge will definitely lead us to nothing except sin.

Children are young human beings yet now, they are acting like adults. Children should be in the stage wherein they need to enjoy life as children. They need protection and care in order for them to develop i
nto a better person. But nowadays, they are more prone to danger and sin. As human beings, children have a certain moral status. There are things that should not be done to them for the simple reasons. At the same time children are different from adult and it seems reasonable to think that there are things children may not do. But as what we have seen today, children are now acting like adults. At a very young age, they work for a living in order for them to sustain the needs of their family. Some parents let their children do dirty works. They teach them to steal things and to be a prostitute. Because of this, the children are prevented from going to school. Why should they suffer at a very young age? Their life is as important as ours. They are not adults but they are the youth; hope for our future.

By all means, life is very much expensive. Thus, we are obliged to take good care of it and nurture it. Even though this rampant situation is experienced not only in our country but to the other countries as well, we need to take actions. We are created to be the stewards of His creation. We have the responsibility to take care of our women and children. We must nurture our lives because it is priceless and for us to fulfill our sworn duties to care for His creations otherwise; we failed.

The lives of women and children are important. Each has their duties and responsibility in the society. Without them, we cannot build strong foundation for our country. Without these foundations, then there will be nothing. We have our own talents and it is our job to develop it. And in developing, we need to tame ourselves from being a selfish person into a pure-hearted one. Despite these, we still even don’t value their lives and continues to abuse their abilities. But let us not lose hope. We, women, men, and child should not get disheartened in times of deprecation and criticism. We should derive strength from the God. Thus with perseverance and hard work will help us bridge the inequality between men, women, and children in the society.

Can Be Tamed

Friendship is what you make out of the good things you gave to your friend. It may not be necessary good things but what you spent on the friendship is more important. It doesn’t matter what you’ve wasted but what matter most is on how you treasure it. It doesn’t matter whether you fight or not but what matter most is on how strong your friendship is. It doesn’t matter on how you treat your friend but what matter most is on how you both mend each other heart. Friendship shall remain in our hearts and will continue to live on. Therefore, friendship through taming makes it worth.

Friendship in the story the Little Prince is one of an important lesson in the story. It was said that to form friendship one must be tamed but to tame requires certain process in order for them to establish a tie. Building friendship is not an easy task to do, nurturing it requires a lot of patience and developing it all in all makes it harder. It requires you to be responsible in order for you to build friendship. It wants you to nurture it through discipline to be able to face realities in life. It takes time to develop it all in all and patience is really needed. Thus, combing all of them you will learn lessons of friendship and values of life.

To summarize all, taming is an important factor in building friendship, nurturing it and developing it. It is necessary because in taming you practice the values and lessons in friendship. But there are no permanent things in this world and even though friendship will someday end, it will last forever and will remain in our hearts and minds. Most importantly what is important in taming is the time we spent to nurture, build, and develop the foundations of friendship.
